| Bill Duke of "Home" is like a housing development, African-American version of "Brokeback Mountain" - only this time told from the viewpoint of the idea initially spouse instead of the two male lovers. Aunjanue Ellis plays a deeply religious woman whose life and marriage fall apart when she discovers that her husband (Razaaq Adoti) is actually a closeted homosexual. This leads to a lot of emotional trauma for both wife and husband - and is clearly an absurd and totally unnecessary for the murder of the sub-used to frame the story. There is no doubt that this is a well-meaning and well-intentioned film, but its attempt to deal honestly with a serious social problem is too often a victim of slickery and overwrought melodramatics. Many a scene that will be rolling their eyes disbelief and disbelief, while acknowledging that some of the points of the film is actually being done, insightful and valid. And, commendably, the film gives a fair hearing to each of its characters and truly torn in conflict. However, a general air of amateurishness - both in the proceedings (including those who act as unconditional Louis Gossett Jr. and "Amen" 's Clifton Davis) and the direction - keeps it from having the impact they clearly want to have. However, a missed opportunity. |
| It really surprised me this movie. Maintain my attention. I was left wanting to know what was going to happen next. This film is very close to a social problem that is hurting the black community. although some parts were kind of off the wall yet proved to be a good movie. I thought it was well acted. I kept trying to figure out that the husband was to trap and was totally surprised by the person who turned out to be. I enjoyed the movie. The other woman who tried to kill her is just silly, but I can not say that there is a person who would put what she did with her husband. I would not have ever imagined that most of the black male characters in the film is lowered down, but it is happening. I think this film was an accurate picture of what is happening in today's society. |
| Church, which is home of the woman arrested and charged with murder. Things are complicated as his neat little life begins to crumble and his clear when Assistant District Attorney prosecuting the case does not care if she was guilty since he is looking to win the next election. Weak film directed by actor turned director Bill Duke. Feeling more like a Tyler Perry Wannabe and then the thriller realistic, often gritty movies that Duke is usually, this movie seems more intended to be something other than the mystery at hand. The film has a weak script that has too many "dark secrets" that good cast can not be turned into something really worth seeing. Not only loses ... and what is worse is that it can be seen whizzing by ... |
